Qiyas GAT Practice Test: 60 Verbal and Quantitative Questions (English)

Practice the question types of Saudi Arabia's General Aptitude Test with the 60 original questions from our practice-test video, each with an explanation, then check the facts the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC) publishes: format, weights, scoring, fees, attempts and test-day rules.

The Qiyas GAT, run by ETEC's National Center for Assessment, is a multiple-choice test with a verbal and a quantitative section. It lasts 125 minutes (2 hours 5 minutes) in timed sections, calculators are not allowed, and there is no pass or fail: your score is norm-referenced, with about 65 as average performance. Results are valid for five years. The real verbal section is in Arabic, so our verbal questions are English look-alikes of the same types.

Qiyas GAT practice test: 60 questions

These are the questions from our GAT practice-test video: 23 verbal questions (English look-alikes of verbal analogy, sentence completion, contextual error and reading comprehension) and 37 quantitative questions in arithmetic, geometry, algebra and data analysis, all without a calculator. ETEC doesn't publish the number of questions on the test, so the split is ours. Pick an answer and press Check Answer to see the explanation; missed questions go to a retry queue. Every question is original, not from a real GAT.

There is no GAT passing mark. As a planning goal, 42 or more of 60 (70%) is our own estimate, not an ETEC number.

What a GAT score means

The GAT is norm-referenced: your score shows where you stand among test takers. ETEC's guide:

How many times can you take the GAT?

ETEC's own GAT page gives two answers. Its FAQ says you can take the test five times, while its general test-taking instructions say four times within three years. Check the current rule on ETEC's page or the registration platform before you plan a retake.

If you take the same test twice in one testing period, only the first attempt counts.

Test-day rules

Bring an original, valid plastic ID with a clear photo: the national ID, the Iqama, an original paper passport, or a Saudi driving licence. Employee and university IDs are not accepted. Arrive at least 30 minutes early for a paper test (no entry once it starts) and 15 minutes early for a computer test.

On computer, each section is timed and you can't return to an earlier section, so check every answer before moving on. On paper, the proctor announces the sections and timing. There are no scheduled breaks. You can reschedule or cancel up to 72 hours before a paper test or 48 hours before a computer test, after payment.

How universities use the score

ETEC says not to compare your GAT score with your high school average, because each has its own scale. The weight given to the GAT is set by each receiving institution, so check the admission page of the university and program you want.

How to study for the GAT

This plan is our suggestion, not ETEC's. Start from ETEC's official guide and trial test so you know exactly what the questions look like, then split your time by the weights: reading comprehension and analogies for verbal, arithmetic for quantitative.

Verbal: name the relationship in an analogy in a full sentence before you look at the choices, find the clue words (although, because) in sentence completion, and go back to the passage for reading questions. Quantitative: work without a calculator from day one, sketch and label geometry figures, and substitute your answer back into algebra problems. In the last two weeks, take timed sections to build stamina for the full 125 minutes.

Sample Qiyas GAT questions with answers

One question from each content area of the practice set above, with the answer and explanation. Try it before you open the answer.

Verbal (English look-alikes)

Pilot is to airplane as captain is to:

  1. sailor
  2. harbor
  3. ship
  4. uniform
Show answer

C. ship

A pilot is the person who steers an airplane, and a captain is the person who steers a ship. Sailors work on the ship, but they don't command it.

Arithmetic

What is 35% of 240?

  1. 84
  2. 96
  3. 105
  4. 120
Show answer

A. 84

10% of 240 is 24, and 35% is three and a half times that. 24 times three and a half is 84.

Geometry

Two angles of a triangle are 50° and 65°. What is the third angle?

  1. 55°
  2. 65°
  3. 75°
  4. 115°
Show answer

B. 65°

The angles of a triangle add up to 180 degrees. Subtract 50 and 65, and the third angle is 65 degrees. 115 is the sum of the two given angles.

Algebra and Data Analysis

If 5x − 7 = 3x + 9, what is x?

  1. 1
  2. 2
  3. 4
  4. 8
Show answer

D. 8

Subtract three x from both sides, and add seven. That gives two x equals 16, so x is eight.

Qiyas GAT FAQ

How long is the Qiyas GAT?

125 minutes (2 hours 5 minutes) in timed sections. Paper tests add about 20 minutes to fill in your details on the answer sheet.

What is a good GAT score?

There is no pass or fail. ETEC's guide says about 65 is average, 70 or above is the top 30%, 73 the top 20%, 78 the top 10%, and 81 or above the top 5%. Universities set their own weighting.

How much does the GAT cost?

ETEC lists SAR 100 for an early-registration paper test, SAR 150 for late paper registration or a computer-based test, and SAR 200 outside Saudi Arabia.

How many times can I take the GAT?

ETEC's GAT page says five times in its FAQ but four times within three years in its test-taking instructions. Confirm the current rule with ETEC before planning a retake.

Is the GAT available in English?

The standard GAT verbal section is in Arabic. Our practice set uses English look-alikes of the same question types; check ETEC's registration platform for the language versions available to you.

Can I use a calculator on the GAT?

No. Calculators are not allowed. On paper you work in the booklet, and the computer test has an electronic scratchpad.
