CCNA Practice Test: 180 Free 200-301 Questions With Explanations
Practice for the Cisco CCNA with the 180 original questions from our three CCNA practice-test videos, weighted like the v1.1 blueprint, then check the exam format, cost, retake rules and the February 2027 switch to CCNA v2.0 from Cisco's own pages.
The CCNA exam (200-301) lasts 120 minutes and costs US$300 per attempt, online or at a Pearson VUE test center, in English or Japanese. Cisco does not publish a question count or a passing score. The current blueprint is v1.1 with six topic areas, led by IP Connectivity at 25%. Cisco says v1.1 runs through February 2, 2027, and CCNA v2.0 (same exam number, 120 minutes, five areas) starts February 3, 2027.

CCNA practice test: 180 questions
These are the questions from our three CCNA practice-test videos (75, 55 and 50 questions, none repeated), grouped by the v1.1 topic areas. Pick an answer and press Check Answer to see the explanation; missed questions go to a retry queue. Every question is original, not from a real Cisco exam, and all are single-answer multiple choice.
Cisco publishes no passing score, so treat about 75 to 80% here as a comfortable target in our estimate, not a Cisco number. The real exam can include item types this set does not cover.
CCNA v1.1 topic areas and weights
The practice set on this page follows these weights. IP Connectivity is the largest area, and the first three areas together are 65% of the exam.
| Topic area | Weight | Questions in our practice set |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0 Network Fundamentals | 20% | 36 |
| 2.0 Network Access | 20% | 36 |
| 3.0 IP Connectivity | 25% | 45 |
| 4.0 IP Services | 10% | 19 |
| 5.0 Security Fundamentals | 15% | 27 |
| 6.0 Automation and Programmability | 10% | 17 |
CCNA v2.0 topic areas (from February 3, 2027)
Your test date decides which blueprint applies. CCNA v2.0 keeps the 200-301 number and the 120-minute limit but regroups the content into five areas.
| v2.0 topic area | Weight |
|---|---|
| Network Infrastructure and Connectivity | 25% |
| Switching and Network Access | 25% |
| IP Routing | 20% |
| Network Services and Security | 20% |
| AI and Network Operations and Management | 10% |
CCNA v1.1 now, CCNA v2.0 in February 2027
Today's exam is CCNA v1.1. Cisco says the topics it added in that update, including generative AI, machine learning and cloud-managed networking, make up only 10 percent of the exam.
Cisco's blog says v1.1 is available through February 2, 2027, and v2.0 starts on February 3, 2027 under the same exam number. The v2.0 topics add more troubleshooting and say candidates may need to evaluate output from agentic AI and digital network assistants. Cisco's advice is that if you are already studying v1.1, finish and pass by February 2. The practice questions on this page are written for v1.1.
How CCNA scoring works
Cisco's policies page says it does not publish exam passing scores: they are set statistically and can change. Its exams overview says your score report shows a score for each exam section, and that breakdown is the most useful thing to have if you need to retake, because it tells you which areas to fix first.
There is no official pass rate either. A safer goal is scoring consistently well on timed practice across all six areas, not just your favorite ones.
Cost, booking and retakes
The fee is US$300 per attempt, or the equivalent in Cisco Learning Credits. Exam vouchers cost the same and are valid 365 days from purchase. Cisco also sells Exam Safeguard Plus for US$450, which includes a second attempt within 90 days if you don't pass the first.
You schedule through Cisco's certification tracking system and pay when you register with Pearson VUE. If you fail, you wait 5 calendar days, starting the day after the attempt. After you pass, you must wait at least 180 days before taking the same exam number again.
Keeping the CCNA: recertification
The CCNA is valid for three years. To recertify, pass the current CCNA exam or any higher-level Cisco exam, or earn 30 continuing education credits before your expiration date. Cisco says an expired certification requires going through the full exam process again.
Seven mistakes that cost CCNA points
These come from our CCNA mistakes video. The study habits are our suggestions, not Cisco's.
- Studying the wrong version: download the blueprint for your actual test date (v1.1 through February 2, 2027; v2.0 from February 3).
- Reading instead of labbing: configure VLANs, trunks, OSPF and ACLs yourself in a simulator such as Cisco Packet Tracer, break them, and fix them with show commands.
- The usable-hosts trap: usable hosts are 2 to the power of the host bits, minus 2. A /30 has four addresses but only two usable.
- The block-size and counting trap: work in the octet where the mask changes, count .0 as the first subnet, and in VLSM allocate the largest subnet first.
- Wildcard masks and ACL order: a wildcard is the inverse of the subnet mask, the first matching line wins, every list ends with an implicit deny, and a list does nothing until it is applied to an interface.
- Route selection backwards: longest prefix match first, then the lowest administrative distance, then the lowest metric. OSPF uses cost from bandwidth, not hop count.
- Misreading the question: check how many answers are wanted and which command mode a command needs, and pace yourself by the clock since there is no published question count.
A two-week CCNA plan
Our suggestion, not Cisco's. Days 1 to 3: read the blueprint for your exam date and rate yourself on every line. Days 4 to 10: lab one topic a day and do ten subnetting problems by hand every morning until each takes under a minute; give IP Connectivity two days. Days 11 to 13: take the practice sets on this page under time pressure and log every miss by topic area. Day 14: rest.
Sample CCNA questions with answers
One question from each content area of the practice set above, with the answer and explanation. Try it before you open the answer.
Network Fundamentals
How many usable host addresses are in a /27 subnet?
- 14
- 30
- 32
- 62
Show answer
B. 30
A /27 leaves five host bits. Two to the fifth power is 32 addresses. Subtract the network address and the broadcast address, and 30 are usable. 32 forgets those two reserved addresses. 62 is a /26, and 14 is a /28.
Network Access
Which command assigns an access port to VLAN 20?
- switchport mode vlan 20
- switchport trunk allowed vlan 20
- interface vlan 20
- switchport access vlan 20
Show answer
D. switchport access vlan 20
On an access port, the command is switchport access VLAN 20, usually paired with switchport mode access. Trunk allowed VLAN lists which VLANs may cross a trunk. Interface VLAN 20 creates a switch virtual interface, which gives the switch a Layer 3 address in that VLAN.
IP Connectivity
What is the default administrative distance of OSPF?
- 90
- 100
- 110
- 120
Show answer
C. 110
Administrative distance ranks how trustworthy a route source is, and lower is better. Connected is zero, static is one, internal EIGRP is 90, OSPF is 110, and RIP is 120.
IP Services
Which feature lets many inside hosts share one public IP using different port numbers?
- PAT (NAT overload)
- Static NAT
- Dynamic NAT with a pool
- Port mirroring (SPAN)
Show answer
A. PAT (NAT overload)
Port address translation, also called NAT overload, maps many private addresses to a single public address and tells the flows apart by their port numbers. Static NAT is a one-to-one mapping, dynamic NAT uses a pool of public addresses one to one, and SPAN copies traffic for monitoring.
Security Fundamentals
Where should a standard ACL normally be placed?
- Close to the source
- On the core switch only
- Inbound on every access port
- Close to the destination
Show answer
D. Close to the destination
A standard access list filters only on source address. Placed near the source, it would block that source from everything. So the rule of thumb is standard ACLs near the destination, and extended ACLs near the source, because they can be precise and stop unwanted traffic early.
Automation and Programmability
Which HTTP method normally creates a new resource in a REST API?
- GET
- DELETE
- OPTIONS
- POST
Show answer
D. POST
Think CRUD. Create maps to post, read maps to get, update maps to put or patch, and delete maps to delete. A get request retrieves data without changing it, and delete removes the resource.
